These wonderful routes on the National Cycle Network are great for an enjoyable day out with kids. All have things to see and do along the way and end up at fun places to playwith. 1. Ely to Wicken Fen Nature Reserve Starting at the impressive Ely Cathedral, Called the’Ship of the Fens’this mostly traffic-free route takes you round the uncluttered landscape of the fens to Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve. Grab your binoculars and see if you can spot one of the wonderful species that call this reserve home. 2. Swiss Valley Cycle Route, Wales This 11-mile traffic-free path rises gently upward from Llanelli’s Millennium Coastal Park and Discovery Centre into the rolling hills of Carmarthenshire. The route moves Sandy Water Park, and both picturesque Swiss Valley reservoirs before continuing along the disused railway path through dense conifer woodland to the buzzing town of Cross Hands. 3. Ingrebourne Valley, London This short, family-friendly ride starts out of Ingrebourne Hill and heads along the Ingrebourne Valley, through Hornchurch Country Park and finishes at Upminster Park. There are picnic places and lots of play areas – perfect for a fun day out with the whole family. Head outdoors and spend time with the whole family. 4. The route heads along the coast where you can admire the fabulous beaches on one side and the South Downs in the horizon on the other. There’s absolutely no lack of cafes and amusements to keep young children amused en route. Please be aware there is an on-road part at Shoreham Harbour in which you ought to take care. 6. Millennium Coastal Path, Llanelli In case you’re trying to find a shorter ride in Llanelli, then you can not beat a fantastic day outside the Millennium Coastal Path. Observing a combination of magnificent coastline and gorgeous woodland, this mile traffic-free course has so much to see and do along the way. End in Pembrey Country Park for a fun, activity-filled adventure such as tobogganing, crazy golf, an equestrian centre and play places.
